You Are Not Your Results
by Robb On July 31, 2014

I was reminded of this quote from my friend Tom this week. I had a weird week. I’ll be honest, I’ve had a weird three months. There is always an ebb and a flow in my business, and for some reason, I’ve been stuck in one hell of an ebb. Cancelled speeches, not booking new speeches, getting hung op on, low numbers of referrals and I managed to pack on about 8 extra pounds on top of it all.

But no matter what happens, there has always been one constant. Whenever I’m asked how I am, I give the same answer, “I’m Awesome!” You know why? Because I believe it.

This Guy Rocks

This guy ROCKS!!

It is easy to tie your attitude and your outlook to your results. It’s easy to start questioning yourself or blaming yourself when things don’t go your way. It’s easy to say, “I didn’t close that deal, I must really suck.” Bottom line; it’s easy to get into a slump.

But here’s the thing. You are not a reflection of the results you get. Your results are a reflection of who you believe you are. No matter how many times I get hung up on or ignored or pounded down or “lifed” as I recently heard it put (thanks, Mike!) I KNOW that I am still awesome. I have the same core values. I’m the same great dad and husband. I’m a good friend and a mediocre golfer and a terrible singer. I still like beer and pizza and working on bikes in my spare time.

There are going to be times when your results totally rock and there are times when your results are going to totally suck. In either case, there’s a common denominator. You. How you treat yourself and how you view your situation is going to make all the difference.

Like I said, I was reminded of this line this week. Before yesterday, I had not spoken on over a month. I had my three biggest potential revenue generating programs cancel on me this week. I was trying to get back into the groove after having been on vacation for 2 weeks. My wife and I had a difficult conversation on finances and I could NOT lay off the take-out food. But you know what? I still believed I was awesome. I showed up to my first program in over a month and ROCKED it. Biggest payday in the last three months. A bunch of referrals. Attendees calling me afterwards to thank me for putting on such an outstanding program.

With all that “bad” going on, how did I pull that off? Easy. I focused on the one good thing I could recently. Me.

Now granted, I felt pretty good after that, but not exponentially better. I was always great. I always believed in myself and THAT approach is what stuck with others.

So the next time you are feeling down about your business, your life, your finances, or your relationships, remember that they aren’t the reason you are down. They might be down because of how you feel about yourself. And if you need help getting that straightened out give me a call. We can talk about the time I kicked a baby in the head and laughed about it. Actually it happened twice, but that’s content for another post.

Grow Podcast Interview
by Robb On July 28, 2014

I recently had the opportunity to be interviewed by Jason Cass as part of his GROW podcast dedicated to helping insurance professionals.

We had a ton of fun during the interview. So much fun in fact that our scheduled 20 min interview went almost 90 mins. He had to break it up into two separate podcasts.

If you’d like to learn a bit about how personal development can really help boost every aspect of your life, take a listen. I’m sure Jason won’t mind a few more subscribers.
